Mourning Dove
The greatest pain hope brings is the will to go on
Audrey was struggling. She was finally in her first proper position, and after a year, it's starting to weigh on her. People scream at her for the costs, but it's not like she could control the price of medical equipment, medicine, or being able to survive beyond those expenses. Seeing the neglect, the ignorance, and sheer gall of some pet owners... It was disgusting. It broke her heart. These people get animals to boost their own ego, with no knowledge or consideration for the life they held so 'dear'.
But there were good moments too. She could never deny the sheer joy she felt seeing an animal recover. Helping a dog have her puppies, pulling thread from a cats intestine, trimming a birds beak, soaking a dehydrated snake with stuck shed. Those moments when she can feel the animals relief. The moment where Audrey almost swore that the animal knew she was trying to help them.
Yeah. That was enough to keep her going. Most days.
